The Bull Terrier
Bull Terriers are muscular and thick-set with a short, dense coat. Their most distinctive feature is their head; often described as egg-shaped. When viewed from the front , their heads almost look flat on top; with a romanesque muzzle sloping evenly down to the end of the nose with no stop. The Bull Terrier's unique, triangular eyes are small, dark, and narrowly set. Their body is full and round, while their shoulders are robust and muscular and their tails are carried horizontally. They walk with a jaunty gait and are popularly known as the gladiator of the canine race. The average height of a Bull Terrier is 16" - 22" inches and their weight can range from 35lbs to 80lbs. Their usual lifespan is somewhere between 10 - 14 years and have been known to live longer.
Bull Terriers are generally friendly dogs.Their physical strength is matched by their intelligence, and both their body and their mind needs to be kept active. They can be obstinate and are not an ideal dog breed of dog for the first-time owner. They are generally placid and will not normally make the first move. They are very affectionate dogs that love human company; so it is not a good idea to leave them alone for a long period of time... Their strong jaws can cause some serious damage if they end up getting too bored.
Bull Terriers are particularly good with children and are very protective of those in their charge. Younger Bull Terriers may perceive young children as playmates and their exceptional strength could cause them inadvertently injure the child. The American Test Society, Inc. (ATTS), a Not-for-profit organization that promotes uniform temperament testing for dog breeds, gave the Bull Terrier a pass rate of 91.5%. The average pass rate among dog breeds is 81.5%. While this is not definitive, it does suggest that Bull Terriers have an above average, even temperament.
